 Beat-O-Matic
Beat-O-Matic is Hobart Guitar Society's FREE new Java metronome application for your mobile phone! It is designed to work on mobile phones which support the following Java specifications:
Beat-O-Matic will enable your phone to be used as a portable metronome with the following features:
- Tempo range from 30 - 240 beats per minute (bpm).
- Adjustable accented beat. Set the accent for every beat, through to every 12th beat.
- Tap Tempo - Tap the hash/pound (#) key in time with a piece of music and the tempo of the metronome will adjust to the tempo of the music.
- Built-in Help reminds you which keys control which functions.
So why are you giving Beat-O-Matic away for free?
We figured that why should we, and you, have to pay for a metronome from a store, when almost everyone carries around a phone with more than enough computing power to drive a metronome application. Besides, we can put the HGS logo on it and remind you that we exist for a few seconds when you start it up!
Will Beat-O-Matic fill up my phone with viruses and adware, or make it dial premium numbers without me knowing?
Absolutely not. We really dislike applications that don't respect you, the user. The Java environment built into your phone also has many security features which prevent applications from accessing network and phone features without your permission.
Does Beat-O-Matic work on the iPhone?
Unfortunately not. There are several free metronome apps available in the iTunes app store.
What if Beat-O-Matic won't work on my phone, or I have more questions?
If your phone is a relatively recent model (3-4 years old) then it should run Beat-O-Matic. Unfortunately some phone manufacturers don't implement the Java environment strictly according to the standard, which may prevent the application from working. This can change from model to model. The only way to test it on your own phone is to download the application and try it out.

The current version of Beat-O-Matic is 0.9.2
The are two methods to get Beat-O-Matic into your phone:
- Use the web browser (or download application) in your phone to point to the following address. Your phone will prompt you to install Beat-O-Matic.

- Download this file to your computer and use a cable or bluetooth and your phone's computer software to copy the file to your phone.
Once you have copied the file to your phone, select it with the keypad and the phone will prompt you to install Beat-O-Matic.
